Coming to America European Composers Influenced by Visits to America
Many of Europe's greatest composers were inspired by visits to the United States. Most notably, Antonin Dvořák wrote his "American Quartet" during a visit to the USA in 1893. Lesser known is his "American Quintet", written in Iowa during the same year. Furthermore, many European composers were forced to emigrate to the United States in response to World War II, as was true of the Czech composer Erich Wolfgang Korngold. Join us for an evening of chamber music standards by these European masters.
