WHAT IS A PLAY/SING-IN? It is an opportunity for a large number of people from the community to come together for a short time and make music together. The age and ability level of the musicians is irrelevant- the important part is bringing people together, in this case for a common cause.
WHAT IS THIS FOR? The purpose of this event is to raise awareness and funds for the AFCECO (Afghan Child Education and Care Organization) orphanages in Afghanistan. Several people from Kabul will be here representing the orphanages. Furthermore, the three musicians who are organizing these events have been to Afghanistan and visited AFCECO, and know many of these children personally. Afghanistan is a nation that has endured decades of war, and as international aid wains in 2015, it is an especially volatile time for the country. Together we can help ensure that the young people in these orphanages continue to have a safe place to live and receive an education.

HOW DOES IT WORK? Do you play an instrument? or sing? Fantastic! Come and join us at either (or both) of the events. There will be a rehearsal where we will go over a few simple folk songs from Afghanistan together. There are various levels of parts, depending on your experience. We will have a wide range of students, amateur musicians, and professionals. We will have both an orchestra (of any instruments) and a choir.
WHAT ABOUT THE CONCERT? The songs we will rehearse as a large ensemble will be played that evening on a public concert. Also on the concert will be some traditional Afghan music by professional musicians. Invite all of your friends!
WHAT IF I DON'T PLAY AN INSTRUMENT OR SING? That's ok! Come and hear the evening concert!
HOW DOES THIS RAISE MONEY? We are not asking for any money to participate in this event, or to attend the concert. However, if after learning more about this important institution most people are able to make a suggested donation of $15, collectively we will be helping the children of Afghanistan. We will also have information on how to make larger, tax-deductible contributions, as well as how to set up an ongoing monthly sponsorship for anyone who wishes to go the extra mile.
