OVERVIEW
Music has long been recognized as a universal language, able to be felt and understood by people from any place and any background. It can be a unifying force between individuals, families, or even entire nations that may not have any other common ground. Since the 21st century is full of complex social and political issues, 21st century artists are discovering ways to use their passion for music to promote peace and understanding.
Emerging young artists often receive intense training on their instruments, but may not have had the opportunity to learn how to engage their community and their complex world. This workshop will give young artists the opportunity to further hone their musical skills by working with some of the leading chamber musicians in the area. The focus on chamber music gives young musicians a chance to work together with new colleagues toward a common goal. In addition, students will attend a workshop on community outreach, and will discover exciting ways music can be used to engage their community and change the world. Students will perform in a formal concert at Trinity Episcopal Church. Then, on the final day, students will put what they have learned into practice by performing their music at a retirement home and/or soup kitchen.
